Trump says Cuba is “about to fall” without Venezuelan oil

The US president, Donald Trump, assured this Sunday that Cuba is “about to fall” and pointed out that its economy is in ruin and that it will now not have access to Venezuelan oil.

“Cuba seems like it is about to fall. I don’t know how they are going to be able to sustain themselves, they have no income. They received all their income from Venezuela, from Venezuelan oil,” said the US president.

“Many Cuban Americans are going to be very happy with us,” he added.

In the statements, made from Air Force One, Trump considered that, given the poor economic situation on the island, an operation in Cuba similar to the one that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro yesterday in Caracas would not be necessary.

“I don’t think we need any action,” Trump said.

The US president in turn assured today that “many Cubans” died yesterday trying to protect Maduro in Caracas.

For his part, the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, today avoided giving a clear answer about the island in a televised interview and limited himself to saying that “the Cuban Government is a big problem.”

“I’m not going to talk to you now about what our next steps will be or our policies in this regard. But I think it’s no secret that we are not exactly admirers of the Cuban regime,” the Cuban-American politician told NBC News.
