Álvarez points out that the Ombudsman would seek to protect privileges in Petroperú

The future of Petroperu It has ceased to be just an economic problem and has become the center of political discussion. The Premier Ernesto Alvarez Indian, In an exclusive interview with Perú21, that an attempt would be made to stop the reform of the state oil company, with a political front from Congress pointing directly to the Ombudsman as responsible.

During the interview, the president of the council of ministers told about the alleged political strategy led by the head of the Ombudsman’s Office, Josúe Gutierrez to continue maintaining the status quo of the officials of an institution that has 481 million dollars in debt.

According to Álvarez, there would be an attempt to convene various political groups and parties in Congress to form a front against the Executive.

The objective of this mobilization would be to protect the benefits and current situation of Petroperú’s senior officials, preventing the austerity plan announced by the Government from being executed.

“Being a defender of the people means defending the people, not defending a privileged bureaucratic caste that for many years has lived off a clearly loss-making company,” he declared for Peru21calling it “incoherent” that an institution created to safeguard citizen rights acts as a shield for “a privileged bureaucratic caste.”

Álvarez was emphatic in describing Petroperú’s financial situation as an unsustainable “fiscal farce.” The premier argued that the constant financial bailouts are nothing more than “buckets of water into the sea” that deeply damage the national economy.

Who is behind maintaining privileges?

The Premier’s complaint suggests that behind the defense of the interests of Petroperú officials there is no vision and even less concern for the interests of all Peruvians.

This resistance would seek to avoid the end of the “gollerías”, a term used by Álvarez to refer to the “fantasy salaries”, “absolutely anti-technical benefits and privileges” that the company maintains despite its technical bankruptcy.
