Santo Domingo. – After capture and subsequent transfer to USA of the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Madurotogether with his wife, Cilia Floresthe president Luis Abinader reaffirmed his support for the democracy of the Venezuelan people.
In a message published on the social network X, the president recalled that Dominican Republic never recognized the legitimacy of the 2024 electionsin which Maduro assured his re-election. This position was reaffirmed with the Declaration of Saint Dominic August of the same year, through which the respect for the popular will expressed at the polls.
“Dominican Republic will always be on the side of democracy. Wherever, whenever and before whomever,” the president wrote.
Abinader stressed that the Solidarity between the Dominican and Venezuelan peoples is historic and reiterated its willingness to collaborate in the restoration of democracypeace and national harmony in Venezuela.
Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were transferred to the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Centerwhere they will face US justice for accusations of drug trafficking, criminal alliances, concentration of power and illicit enrichment.
