Premier assures that President Jerí took advantage of the viral popularity of “La Maquina” to create the official motto

Premier assures that President Jerí took advantage of the viral popularity of “La Maquina” to create the official motto

The head of the Ministerial Cabinet, Ernesto Álvarez Miranda, defended the Executive’s decision to adopt the phrase “Peru at full speed!” as the official motto of the president’s administration José Jerí for the year 2026, ensuring that the president knew how to “turn around the viral issue” after a wave of comments on social networks.

Álvarez explained that the phrase – coinciding with a viral video that shows an impersonator dancing to the rhythm of the song La Maquina – was intentionally incorporated as a slogan and communication policy for all entities of the Executive Branch. According to the premier, the objective was to neutralize attempts to delegitimize the president on digital platforms, turning the popularity of the phenomenon into a symbol of government management.

“If the president is sent an attitude of dubious dignity, an imitator and he catches on Tiktok and catches the youth who consume TikTok, a song; an imitator and a fictitious story, what a skilled politician normally does is use this and, on the contrary, turn the issue around [sic]”, he declared to RPP.

The phrase “Peru at full speed!” It was made official by Ministerial Resolution No. 366-2025-PCM and obliges all Executive institutions to include the motto and a visual logo in their institutional advertising and communications aimed at citizens. The Government maintains that the expression summarizes the spirit of “constant, determined and unstoppable movement against crime”, one of the flags of the Jerí administration since it assumed the Presidency on an interim basis.

This slogan has generated a wide discussion in public opinion and among analysts. Critical sectors have pointed out that the measure seeks to “capitalize” on a social media meme to project an image of dynamism, rather than communicating specific management results. However, senior officials of the Executive – including the Minister of Culture, Alfredo Luna – have defended the slogan, pointing out that it reflects the pace of work of the cabinet and the commitment of the current administration to its government agenda.

Álvarez also compared the strategic use of the motto with historical examples of political leaders who transformed popular nicknames or nicknames into positive symbols: he cited the case of Luis Bedoya Reyes, who adopted the nickname “Toucan” in his favor, and Rafael López Aliaga, linked to the use of the nickname “Porky”, as part of his political identity.

The decision to institutionalize the phrase occurs in the last month of 2025, in a context of an active political agenda and in the midst of the transition to the new government that will be elected in the general elections of April 2026. “Peru at full speed!” – in the words of its defenders – seeks to convey an image of constant progress and firm management in the months preceding the presidential replacement.
