Nicolás Maduro received a special delegation from China to review the extensive agreements that Venezuela maintains with that country. The Chinese Government has expressed on several occasions its rejection of the air-naval deployment that the United States has maintained since August in the Caribbean and has accused it of “violating international law.”
Nicolás Maduro received this Friday in Caracas Qiu Xiaqi, China’s special envoy, amid tensions with the United States, which maintains a military deployment in the Caribbean under the argument of combating drug trafficking and which Caracas calls a “threat.”
Maduro received the official at the Miraflores presidential palace, along with Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and Foreign Minister Yván Gil, according to the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
On the part of the Chinese delegation, there was also the ambassador for Venezuela, Lan Hu, and “senior managers” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs such as Lui Bo and Wang Hao.
According to VTV, the meeting aims to review the ties of cooperation between both nations, which maintain “more than 600 agreements.”

The Government of China has expressed on several occasions its rejection of the air-naval deployment that the United States has maintained since August in the Caribbean, near Venezuelan waters, and has accused it of “violating international law” for the seizure of two oil tankers transporting Venezuelan crude.
On December 22, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian declared at a press conference that his country “systematically opposes illegal unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law and do not have the authorization of the United Nations Security Council.”
“Venezuela has the right to independently develop mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries,” the spokesperson added, while ensuring that the “international community understands and supports Venezuela’s position in safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.”
US President Donald Trump announced an attack on a “large facility” as part of his campaign against drug trafficking. He indicated that the attack was on a dock, but did not specify the geographical area of the bombing.
As reported by the New York Times On Monday, the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) carried out a drone attack against a port facility in Venezuela last week.
This Thursday, Maduro said, in an interview, that his country’s defensive system “has guaranteed and will guarantee the territorial integrity” of Venezuela, when asked about this alleged ground attack, which he neither confirmed nor denied.
