SANTIAGO.— The metropolitan archbishop of Santiago, Monsignor Héctor Rafael Rodríguezasked the Lord that the newly begun year 2026 “is not stained by corruption or impunity”, while describing as serious and indecent the scandal involving the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa), considering that it threatens life and human dignity.

The statements of the main leader of the Catholic Church in Cibao Central were offered during the New Year’s homily held at the Santiago Apostle Cathedral (El Mayor), which was attended by dozens of parishioners and which was broadcast on several television channels and radio stations belonging to the Church.

“It is not enough to condemn corruption in words; it is a commitment to combat it with firm and concrete actions,” emphasized Monsignor Rodríguez.

He maintained that it is “unacceptable and immoral” any attempt to profit at the expense of the health of the population, by warning that These types of practices undermine confidence in justice and public institutions.in addition to deeply hurting the entire Dominican society.

The archbishop urged both Catholics and the Dominican people in general to begin the year 2026 under the blessing and mercy of God, affirming that faith provides the necessary strength to sustain light, hope and values, in the face of anti-values, dishonesty, violence, wars and evil.

He indicated that humanity does not begin this new period “alone or adrift,” but supported by a divine force that gives meaning and hope in the midst of a world wounded by the loss of moral and ethical principles.

“We must unite in a crusade to defend peace, social justice, the common good and transparency in the management of State resources, which must be used to solve national problems and respond to the most urgent needs of the population,” he stated.

Finally, Monsignor Rodríguez reiterated that 2026 should be a year to work and live in honesty, and not in corruption.
