More than two million citizens appear on the electoral roll with the expired National Identity Document (DNI) ahead of the general elections on April 12, 2026.
According to the official registry approved by the National Elections Jury (JNE), at the close of registration on October 14, 2025, 2,001,447 voters were counted in this condition, which represents 7.32% of the total number of qualified voters.
In accordance with current electoral regulations, it is not allowed to vote with an expired DNI, whether in its blue or electronic version.
The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) specified that, although the registry is already closed and does not allow modifications, citizens who renew their document will be able to vote as long as the DNI is valid on the day of the election, regardless of the date on which the renewal was carried out.
Regarding the distribution of Voters with expired DNI, 1,662,073 are in national territory and 339,374 reside abroad. By gender, the registry registers 920,058 women and 1,081,389 men in this situation.
In total, The electoral roll approved for the 2026 elections exceeds 27.3 million qualified citizens to exercise their right to vote.
