The Civil Defense of São Paulo reported that there will be significant changes in weather conditions across the state and intense rain in the first days of 2026. At the beginning of January, the passage of a cold front along the state’s coast is expected to intensify instability, increasing the risk of heavy rain and storms in several regions.
Furthermore, the advancement of this system will contribute to the gradual reduction in temperatures and the weakening of intense heat.
For this Thursday (1st), the sun appears between a variation of clouds, with rain showers forecast from the afternoon onwards, which could be moderate to strong. According to the agency, the instability is associated with the rapid passage of a cold front across the ocean, coupled with the transport of moisture from the Amazon region.
On Friday (2), another cold front advances along the coast of São Paulo, favoring cloudier weather and rain at any time of the day, mainly in the east and on the coast of the state.
“Rainfall can be moderate to heavy, with the possibility of significant accumulations, increasing the risk of disruptions, such as flooding, landslides, falling trees and road interruptions, especially in more vulnerable areas”, announced the state government.
The accumulation of rain between today and Sunday (4) should be significant, with greater emphasis on the eastern part of the state. The forecast for very high accumulations is the regions of Vale do Ribeira, Sorocaba, Campinas, Baixada Santista and the North Coast.
High accumulations are predicted for the metropolitan region of São Paulo, Serra da Mantiqueira and Vale do Paraíba. Average rainfall rates are expected to occur in the regions of Araraquara, Bauru, São José do Rio Preto, Franca, Barretos, Ribeirão Preto, Itapeva, Marília, Presidente Prudente and Araçatuba.
Crisis Office
The state government mobilized the Crisis Office to coordinate prevention and assistance actions for municipalities in the face of heavy rain forecasts.
“Throughout the week, the bodies responsible for responding to emergencies meet at the Civil Defense headquarters, mobilizing and integrating their structures to optimize response to incidents and reduce response time,” informed the state government.
Guidelines for the population
Civil Defense advises drivers who intend to travel during the New Year period to pay extra attention, especially during episodes of heavy rain.
“It is important to avoid traveling through flooded areas, reduce speed on wet roads, maintain a safe distance between vehicles and, in case of low visibility, look for a safe place to stop”, he announced.
Another recommendation is that you monitor the weather and highway conditions before starting your trip and follow the guidelines of traffic agencies and concessionaires.
For those on the beach during storms, it is recommended to avoid staying on the sand, not entering the sea in adverse conditions and seeking shelter in safe places.
In the event of lightning, the advice is to quickly leave the water and stay away from open areas, in addition to respecting the signs of rescue teams, such as indicative flags, and following official alerts before and during travel to the coast.
For those who intend to spend the next few days in farms, farms or leisure areas with swimming pools, Civil Defense asks you to pay extra attention to weather conditions.
In case of heavy rain or approaching storms, the recommendation is to leave the pool immediately, avoid open areas, do not stay close to trees, poles or metal structures and seek shelter in safe, covered places. It is also important to suspend outdoor activities during lightning strikes.
