Venezuelan opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia sent a message of New Year’s Eve to all Venezuelans. This Wednesday, December 31, 2025the leaders expressed that 2026 will be the year of the “consolidation of freedom” in Venezuela.
In this sense, Machado and González assured that they are increasingly committed to the fight for democracy in the country. A fight they have maintained since they denounced fraud in the 2024 presidential elections, when Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed reelected president.
End of the Year Message from Machado and González
“2026 will be the year of the consolidation of the freedom of our nation. Our New Year’s Eve message to all Venezuelans,” wrote the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner in a message on instagram. The message was accompanied by a video in which González Urrutia also appears, who claims to be the “elected president” in the last elections.
“Like every year, we look forward to the arrival of a new year. We do it with faith, with hope, with confidence that this new time will bring us all a better future,” Machado expressed in the video.
For his part, González noted: “We are reaching the end of a decisive year. A year that has not been easy, but that has marked a before and after in our contemporary history. “We all know that this fight to reunite our families and all of Venezuela has been long and difficult, but it has also made us stronger and more resilient and increasingly committed to the objectives of our fight.”
He also added: “Venezuela has a possible, realistic and democratic path to recover the country. It is not an improvisation, precisely for that reason, it is a process that requires order, perseverance and collective commitment.”
