The National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant) executed 10,778 inspections visual techniques during the preventive day Consciousness for Life: Safe Christmas and New Year 2025–2026, revealing an alarming panorama in terms of road safety at the national level.
The results of the inspections carried out of the December 18 to 30 They were forceful. 5,288 unitsequivalent to 49% of the total supervised, presented some type of non-compliance.
Together, they identified 20,118 findingswhich included critical mechanical failures and administrative irregularities that represent a direct risk to drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
Vehicles impounded
As a direct result of these violations, Intrant retained 387 units that represented a imminent risk for road safety. Likewise, 162 drivers were removed from their jobs due to documentary irregularities, inadequate vehicle conditions or lack of aptitude to drive safely.
Doping tests: seven positive cases
Within the framework of the Tránsito+Limpio program, 470 doping tests were carried out on public, private and freight transport drivers, in coordination with the Dominican Red Cross. Of these evaluations, seven were positive, representing 1.5%, cases that were immediately attended to in accordance with established institutional protocols.
Among the most recurrent deficiencies were the absence of trianglesfire extinguishers or first aid kits, front lights and rear parts in poor condition, broken or non-existent glass, tires with extreme wear, as well as missing mirrors and bumpers. In several cases, these were vehicles that should not have circulated due to their general conditions.
Intrant technicians supervised buses, minibuses, motorcycles, private vehicles and, for the first time in an expanded manner, cargo transport units.
Regarding documentation, they were detected expired licensesincorrect categories for vehicle type, units without insurancein addition to the use of prohibited LED lights and tires with pointed nuts, practices that contravene Dominican traffic regulations.
