Captain of the Brazilian volleyball team, Gabi Guimarães was chosen as the second best player of 2025 by the International Federation (Volleyball Word). Currently at the Italian club Conegliano, the striker was announced this Tuesday (30), three days after the entity elected compatriot Julia Kudiess, central of the team, the fifth best athlete in the world. The list will be completed on Wednesday (31) with the announcement of number 1 of the season.
In a post on social media, Volleyball Word highlights Gabi’s excellence in competitions, both for the club and for Amarelinha.
“Adored by fans, respected by opponents and a reference for all her teammates, Gabi personifies the modern striker. Passing, defending, attacking, leading, Miss Tudo does it all. The daughter of the god of volleyball”, says the note.
The winger is praised for her leadership, balance, intelligence and consistency on the court. The entity also highlights Gabi’s performance in international competitions: “her impact was equally constant, anchoring her team with composure, versatility and determination”.
The 2024/2025 season was Gabi’s second at Conegliano. The Brazilian won three titles with the club: the Italian volleyball league – in which she was elected MVP (English acronym for most valuable player) –, the Champions League, which earned her the best pointer and best reception awards, and also the Italian Cup. At the Club World Cup, Gabi was runner-up with Conegliano, and was also chosen as the best striker in the competition. Leading Amarelinha, the player won silver in the Nations Leagues and bronze in the World Cup – in both competitions she also stood out as the best striker.
