Urban bus fares in the city of Rio de Janeiro will increase from R$4.70 to R$5 starting next Sunday (4). The decree was published by Mayor Eduardo Paes in Official Gazette of the Municipality this Tuesday (30).
The increase of R$0.30 represents an adjustment of around 6% in the public transport fare. The new value will also apply to other means of transport, such as BRTs and VLTs, in addition to vans and so-called “cabritinhos”.
The ticket price will also be updated for passengers using Bilhete Único Carioca. According to the decree, the tariff review follows parameters set out in municipal legislation and in legal agreements signed between the city hall, the Public Ministry and the consortia that operate the system, which are: Intersul, Transcarioca, Internorte and Santa Cruz.
Although the user pays R$5 for the fee, the consortiums will be remunerated at R$6.60. The subsidy to be paid by the city hall is calculated considering the remuneration per kilometer traveled by buses in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
