Fernando Guerrero, lawyer at the Manuela Beltrán University, said that the law seeks to discourage one of the most frequent violations in residential areas, particularly during periods of high social activity such as Christmas and New Year.
“The regulatory framework is the Law 2450 of 2025which modified the National Code of Security and Citizen Coexistence. This norm toughened the sanctions to convert the noise pollution in an infraction that hurts the pocketbook,” said the expert.
He pointed out that when a party, meeting or event affects the tranquility of the neighbors and the orders of the authorities are not followed, the sanction can escalate up to a fine type 4one of the highest contemplated in current legislation.
Noise limits and current penalties
According to the standard, the noise fines They can reach 16 current legal daily minimum wages (smdlv), which is equivalent to about $759,000. In addition to the economic sanctionthe Police are empowered to temporarily deactivate the source of the noise if the person responsible refuses to end the activity.

The Law against noise classifies sanctions into fines type 1, 2, 3 and 4ranging from 2 to 16 smdlv. In cases of noise generated by parties and refusal to lower the volume, the applicable sanction is fine type 4.
