The most infamous of 2025

Los más infames de 2025

Once again ‘CubaNet’ chooses the most infamous figures on the national scene.

1-Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez

Like every year since his mandate began, the most inefficient and unpopular ruler Cuba has ever had repeats in first place. In 2025, he has enthusiastically contributed to this, making his total disconnection from reality even greater: in the face of the catastrophic situation in the country, in the meetings he held almost daily, he only managed to talk about “creative resistance”.

The hand-to-hand ruler demonstrated his lack of charisma and empathy when, in his useless and choreographed tours through the eastern provinces after the passage of Hurricane Melissa, he lost his composure in the face of the claims of several victims. And this year he also threatened again to make those protesting in the streets against the blackouts and lack of water feel “the full weight of the law”; four cats, according to him, whom he described as “confused by the matrices of opinion created by enemy propaganda” and even “indecent and criminals.”

2-Alejandro Gil Fernández

The man sentenced to life imprisonment, now former Minister of Economy, so detested at the time by the people (like Marino Murillo Jorge) due to the chaos and inflation caused by the failure of the “Ordering Task”now he inspires pity. In the most notorious purge after the Cause 1 of 1989they chose him as a scapegoat and blamed him for crazy decisions that were approved by the regime’s top leadership at the most inopportune of moments. But they not only blamed him for that: among other charges, Gil was accused of “espionage.” It is not known who he spied for. It was not possible to know because the two trials they gave him were behind closed doors. Therefore, it was not known about the corrupt people involved in the case, who must be many and large.

Gil was lucky that Arnaldo Ochoa and Tony de la Guardia were not, and escaped the wall. But the most likely thing, because of how much he knows, is that he will die in prison: he will have a heart attack or they will “kill him.” Like Abrantes, the former Minister of the Interior purged in 1989. But, in the case of Gil, it is most likely that they will not even announce the news of his death.

3-Vicente de la O Levy

The Minister of Energy and Mines, supported by the services of his chatty squire, the black-haired, dyed-haired journalist Bernardo Espinosa, has comfortably earned, above other infamous people, his place on this list with so many long blackouts, scheduled or not, generation deficits, breakdowns in thermoelectric plants, outages in the National Electrical System (SEN) and explanations that do not convince and no one understands.

4-Manuel Marrero Cruz

The prime minister, despite usually being closer to reality than Díaz-Canel, went into overdrive when trying to explain, out of hand and without specifying or going into much detail, the so-called “Government Plan to correct distortions and re-boost the economy.” Mainly, he left us Cubans dumbfounded with the idea of “dollarizing and then gradually de-dollarizing.”

5-Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, in addition to his attacks on the US Secretary of State, the Cuban-American Marco Rubio, and the complaints of “piracy” due to Washington’s actions in the Caribbean, took time to complain about the messages of hate and incitements to violence from his compatriots on social networks and spoke out for moderation and respect. None other than him, who represents to the world a regime that advocated revolutionary violence, preached hatred and systematically dedicates itself, both through its official spokespersons and the so-called cyber-clarias, to insulting its adversaries and muddying its reputation. And the chancellor dropped the ball when he denied that there are political prisoners or people who are hungry in Cuba.

6-Raúl Castro Ruz

He very brother of Fidel and his successor at the head of the Castro network, has returned this year to leave those who believed the rumors about his death with desire. It has happened so many times that, when it really happens, no one will believe it. But that the nonagenarian army general is still clinging to the world of the living is no longer news. The novelty is that he is no longer limited to having his foot in the stirrup, but, in view of how extremely screwed up everything is, he has decided to show that he is the one in charge. Is he not, by dynastic right, the “leader of the Revolution”?

He has already proven that he is willing to jump over institutions and whatever when he deems appropriate. Like when he postponed until further notice the IX Congress of the Communist Party that was to be held in April 2026 (a decision that did not correspond to him, but to Díaz-Canel, who is the first secretary of the PCC).

7-Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera

The former Minister of Social Security resigned in July, after the great controversy caused by her shameless lack of sensitivity when she assured the National Assembly that the homeless people seen on the streets who rummage through the trash and beg for alms are not beggars, but disguised people looking for easy money or recyclable materials.

The sad thing is that many of the parliamentarians who applauded those shameless statements by the then minister, such as Yosuán Palacios, later applauded Díaz-Canel when he criticized her and left her no choice but to resign.

8-Sandro Castro Arteaga

The grandson of the deceased “top leader”, indifferent to the pain he must put his relatives through, continues to perform antics. The most recent was the “Vampicash”, the convertible currency exchange rate that the little prince Castro, believing himself to be the “bitonguito in chief”, tried to implement before the National Bank announced the official floating rate.

9-Oscar Pérez Oliva

The nephew of Fidel and Raúl Castro (he is the grandson of Ángela, their sister) rose like foam this year. From vice minister of Foreign Trade he went on to become minister and, more recently, vice prime minister of the Republic, one of the highest positions in the State, in addition to being elected deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power, which makes him presidential.

Many believe that the engineer, a member of the dynasty although he does not bear the last name Castro, will be the one to replace Díaz-Canel. If this happens, it is assumed that next year, if the regime lasts that long, it will also rise on this list.

10-Luis Carreres Ortiz and Belissa Cruz Pupo

The actor from Santiago, as comical as he was in his role as the curda Voltómetro in the now-defunct television show live from the storyfell heavily and lost a considerable part of his audience when, recently, more than appeasing, submissive, he spoke out against the anti-Castro exile and the protests in the streets.

A similar loss of public favor happened to actress Belissa Cruz. Not even by helping with her colleague Alejandro Cuervo the victims of Hurricane Melissa has she been able to mitigate the bad feeling she felt when, in a commercial, she became cynical by recommending that Cubans, instead of protesting the blackouts, solve their problem by buying an electrical plant. And she made things even worse when she tried to rectify it, but ended up complaining about those who criticized her.
