Senator Campillai held a meeting with Minister Jackson to request the urgency of the amnesty project for prisoners of the social outbreak

During this afternoon, the senator, Fabiola Campillay (IND), held a meeting with the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, George Jacksonin Valparaíso to request that the bill that seeks amnesty for the prisoners of the social outbreak be accelerated.

The appointment was requested by the parliamentarian to propose to the Secretary of State that the Government make use of its power over the legislative proposal in the Senate and in the Chamber of Deputies, so that it does not continue to be extended.

“I hope that we can have all our colleagues who have been imprisoned for more than two years already, in preventive detention, out. It is not humane to have people imprisoned for so long without justification, without trials. We want them out, because they only went out one day to ask for our rights, rights that were denied to us. They were paid with repression against the Chilean people by declaring war: mutilating us, raping us, killing and murdering our colleagues,” said the parliamentarian after the meeting.

In addition, he added that “we need reparation, a comprehensive reparation, and that our young people are outside to seal enormous wounds that Chile has, regarding the social outbreak and our brave young people.”

While the head of the Segpres expressed that “of course we are going to take this quickly to the Political Committee to give a response to this request, which we hope to be able to deliver it this week, in the coming days.”

The initiative is still in its first constitutional process in the Senate. The Constitution Commission has already dispatched it, establishing the term that will be taken into account for the detainees -October 7, 2019 to December 9, 2020- and for which crimes the amnestied will be. Now it must be voted on in the Chamber, where it must have an absolute majority.
