With a massive attendance, the Chilca district commemorated the 205 years of the Battle of Azapampa through an emotional staging that brought together hundreds of neighbors and visitors in the sports hall of the Huicho Cruz sector. More than 150 actors, including community members and local youth, participated in the recreation of this key episode of the independence process.

The staging recalled the events that occurred in 1820, when Wanka peasants and settlers, armed with work tools, faced the royalist army in an unequal fight that left around 500 dead. Despite the military defeat, the people’s resistance was not broken and marked a milestone in the history of Huancayo.

The activity was attended by local authorities, led by the mayor of Chilca, César Damas Laurente, and representatives of the Azapampa community. At the end, the actors received recognition from the public for keeping alive the historical memory and legacy of those who gave their lives for independence.
