Brazilian women’s football ended the 2025 season with coach Arthur Elias’ team performing at a high level and with clubs consolidating themselves competitively. It was the year in which Corinthians, still the main force in women’s football in Brazil, met opponents who rocked the victorious path of Brabas Corinthians.
Seven-time champion of the Brazilian Women’s series A1 against Cruzeiro in September, Timão isolated itself in the gallery of champions of the women’s tournament. Brabas lifted the cup for the sixth consecutive time. Since the Brasileirão Feminino was resumed by the CBF in 2013, more than half of the titles belong to Parque São Jorge players. The other champions are Centro Olímpico (2018), Ferroviária (in 2014 and 2019) Rio Preto (2015), Flamengo (2016) and Santos (2017). In the Copa Libertadores, Brabas also maintained sovereignty, winning the third title in a row, the sixth in the continental tournament (2017, 2019, 202, 2023 and 2024 and 2025). The black and white team is the one that holds the most titles in the Women’s Libertadores, created in 2009.
The state of São Paulo continues to be the main hub for women’s football in the country. Proof of this is that in addition to Corinthians, São Paulo and Palmeiras were among the semifinalists. But what stood out in 2025 was the constellation coming from Minas Gerais, led by coach Jonas Urias, who fought directly for the title. The Cabulosas – the nickname of Cruzeiro’s women’s team – shook Corinthians hegemony by finishing the first phase of the Brasileirão in the lead.
The Minas Gerais team continued to surprise by drawing with Brabas (2-2) in the first game of the final. However, in the return match, the Cabulosas let the title slip away with a 1-0 defeat at the Neo Química Arena, in the capital of São Paulo. Due to the campaign throughout the season, Cruzeiro became feared by the other clubs. It is important to add to the Minas Gerais team’s campaign the festive and impressive presence of the fans in the games, especially as hosts.
Another twist in the Cabulosas x Brabas rivalry was the elimination of Cruzeiro by Corinthians in the women’s Copa do Brasil, still in the third phase of the competition, which returned to the calendar this season, after an eight-year hiatus. In the quarter-finals, Corinthians was eliminated by São Paulo, who continued to the semi-finals alongside Bahia, Palmeiras and Ferroviária. The Palestrinas and the Guerreiras Grenás made the final of the tournament in Araraquara (SP), and Verdão won 4-2, winning the unprecedented title in the competition. The highlight of the title decision and the Palmeiras season was striker Amanda Gutierres, who shone in the club’s top scorer with 24 goals during the year.
The same Amanda Gutierres was decisive in winning Palmeiras’ fourth championship in Paulistão. She found the net in Verdão’s 5-1 victory over Corinthians, who were unable to reverse the aggregate score in the return game. Amanda said goodbye to the São Paulo team to play for Boston Legacy, in the United States. Still in the alviverde scenario, it is important to highlight that 2025 was the year in which coach Camilla Orlando left for the Brazilian Under-20 team and the arrival of Rosana Augusto, a former Palmeiras player. Rosana was at Flamengo, who released her in October. In the same month she took over the technical command of Palestrinas and, in tune with the team, ended 2025 with two more titles under her belt.
A2 and A3 series
THE TV Brasil tbroadcast the A1 series and also the final stages of the A2 and A3 series. In the second division, Santos was champion after defeating Botafogo 2-1 on aggregate. In addition to the Sereias da Vila (the nickname of the Santos women’s team), Botafogo, Fortaleza and Atlético-MG also moved up to the elite of women’s football in 2026. The next edition of the Brasileirão will feature 18 teams, two more than in 2025.
In the A3 series, Atlético won the first national title in the history of Piauí football. The team became champions by beating Vila Nova (ES) in the second leg 4-0. In the first game, Tricolor Piauí lost 2-1, but recovered with a rout in the second leg at home, at the Albertão Stadium, in Teresina.
Brazilian team
After a 2024 marked by the silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games, the women’s team continued to climb important steps that consolidate coach Arthur Elias’ work at the head of the team and its place of respect in the world. In 2025, the team was champion of the women’s Copa América for the ninth time after defeating Colombia on penalties.
Exciting, the final game was rocked by Queen Marta and an inspired goalkeeper Lorena. After a draw in extra time (4-4), Brazil secured victory on penalties. The tournament took place in Quito, Ecuador.
Throughout the year, the team also played friendly matches with important teams. In the second match of the year against the United States, Brazil achieved an unprecedented victory over the leaders of the world rankings, at their opponents’ home ground, by a score of 2-1. In the first match, the team lost 2-0.
After the Copa América, other friendlies proved Amarelinha’s good form, winning over England (2-1), Italy (1-0) and Portugal (5-0). Not even the defeat to Norway (3-1) in the penultimate friendly of the year could erase the team’s successful season. In total, there were nine friendlies, six wins and three defeats.
Selection bases
At the Women’s U-17 World Cup, held in Morocco, the team led by coach Rilany Silva finished in fourth place, after losing to Mexico in the fight for 3rd place. The result is considered historic, as it was the first time that Brazil reached the semifinals of the competition.
The U20 team changed command in June, when coach Camilla Orlando was announced – she continued coaching Palmeiras, in parallel, until October. The debut was in November, with a goalless draw against Argentina and a rout (7-0) over Paraguay, both friendly games. The under 20 team’s main objective in 2026 is the South American Championship in the category.
