Venezuela denounces extermination of Palestinian children on Holy Innocents' Day

President Nicolás Maduro recalled this Sunday that “just as Herod failed before our Lord Jesus Christ, today he will not prevail against Venezuela,” in the context of the commemoration of the Day of the Holy Innocents, celebrated every December 28 in countries of Christian tradition.

The president added that the hope for a better country remains intact and that every day will be better for the Venezuelan people.

For his part, Foreign Minister Yván Gil lamented that “the children of Bethlehem, Gaza and all of Palestine are being murdered or living under the threat of extermination,” linking the current situation in Palestine with the biblical episode of the massacre ordered by Herod.

Through his Telegram account, Gil also denounced the support of “a decadent empire” for what he described as a genocide.

The minister stressed that the Venezuelan people acclaim the right of boys and girls to a life free of abuse, violence and war, and to a future full of prosperity and happiness.

Political and regional context

The statements come amid the escalation of genocide in Gazawhich has generated international condemnations and complaints of violations of humanitarian law.

Venezuela has maintained a critical stance towards Israel and support for Palestine, in line with its foreign policy of solidarity with peoples facing armed conflicts.
