Opposition legislators call for the dismissal of Marx Arriaga from the SEP

“In short, in the Committees we will educate ourselves, we will agitate and we will organize ourselves as real counterweights against the hegemonic powers and political operators who seek to privatize education. Our goal will be to re-found the SEP and the National Educational System,” said Marx Arriaga.

Given this, various legislators asked for his departure from the SEP. Senator Carolina Viggiano, of the PRI, demanded that Marx Arriaga be removed from his position and described him as “a danger to the national educational system.”

In addition, he mentioned that the official “is obsessed” with ideology and lacks the intellectual and cultural solidity to be in charge of the Educational Materials Directorate of the SEP.

“Yes, this man deserves to be removed. The president (Claudia Sheinbaum) should take this matter seriously, it is not just any issue, it is a very delicate matter, it is crazy, without a doubt,” he said.

Meanwhile, the PRI leader, Alejandro Moreno, questioned Marx Arriaga’s call, as he mentioned that the government headed by Morena is a “sect.”

“What are you trying to do? Teach children that embracing organized crime is okay? Make them believe that the narco-dictator Nicolás Maduro is an example to follow? Promote ineptitude as an aspirational model? It’s a mother’s joke!” the man also known as Alito wrote from his social networks.

Meanwhile, representative América Rangel, from the PAN, pointed out that the director of Educational Materials wants to make public education “more workmanlike,” which is why she also called for the official’s dismissal.

“Let’s say it clearly: that is not education, it is INDOCTRINATION. And it is exactly the manual of the left: using the classrooms to create followers, not critical citizens. Education does NOT have to be “obradorist”, “morenista” or any current,” he wrote from his social networks.

For this reason, he emphasized that public education in the country must be neutral and focused on teaching reading, writing, mathematics, science and critical thinking.

PAN deputy Héctor Saúl asked the president to “respect the basic principles that should guide educational policy in our nation.” “Enough of them trying to hijack education in our country!” he declared on social networks.

Deputy Francisco Javier Farías, from Movimiento Ciudadano, agreed with the PAN members by pointing out that Arriaga seeks to “indoctrinate” from the SEP to impose “more workerism” as an ideology brought to socialism.

“We cannot allow the country to direct education towards that direction (to socialism). What Marx Arriaga deserves is to be fired immediately, because what he intends to do is indoctrinate the new generations in basic education,” declared the Emecista.
