The Caasd invests more than 320 million in the rehabilitation of drinking water tanks in Greater Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo. – The Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Caasd) reported that it has invested around RD$322 million pesos in the comprehensive rehabilitation work of 11 drinking water regulatory tanks in different sectors of the National District and the Santo Domingo province.

In a press release, the general director of the institution, Felipe Subervíreported that these interventions are part of the project for the execution of works to improve water services drinking and sanitationwhich form an essential part of the “Zone Plan”, which seeks to strengthen storage capacity and optimize service in the capital.

“These actions are part of a continuous maintenance plan and improvement of our infrastructure. We have advanced through different stages, from the survey, inspection and technical evaluation, until reaching the phase of deep rehabilitationwhere we work in an accelerated and efficient manner to optimize the operation of our systems,” the official said.

In that sense, he explained that, to date, the entity delivered the Palmar de Herrera tankswith the capacity of nine million gallons and investment of RD$55,232,128; as well as the one that covers the Residencial Jardín Genoveva in La Victoria, El Milloncito de Sabana Perdida, Buenaventuranza, Residencial Juan Pablo II and Residencial Villa de los Milagros, with a joint investment of RD$149,316,639.

Likewise, the official explained that the tanks The Jewel and The Warwhich operate on a regular basiscontributing to improving the continuity of service in the areas where they operate.

Currently, he indicated that the tanks of Mary Help of ChristiansEsther, Gualey, Los Guaricanos and La Monumental, which present a general advance of 45%. In that sense, Suberví explained that these infrastructure will be delivered at the beginning of next year for its start-up, which will allow expanding coverage and optimizing supply.

“With these works we strengthen storage capacity and distribution in strategic sectors, which will improve coverage,” added the head of the Caasd.

Likewise, he announced that the rehabilitation work in the Carmen Renata I tanks, Juan Rafael Jacobo MajlutaJardines del Arroyo, San Isidro Labrador and Colinas del Arroyo, as part of the same modernization program.

Suberví highlighted that the government entity applies an advanced waterproofing system certified by the UK Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS)under BS 6920:2014, suitable for contact with drinking water.

“This technology guarantees durability and health safety in the tanks. With it we reduce losses due to leaks and prolong the useful life of the structures,” explained the director.

More executions

According to official information, the Caasd is also carrying out an extensive rehabilitation and modernization program of wastewater treatment plants, with a total investment of RD$721,496,281.28. According to the entity, among the works delivered include the Prado de San Luis and Haina Meuse, while they are in bidding process the plants of Villa Liberación, in Santo Domingo Estewith an investment of RD$82,910,632.75, and La Virgen, located in Santo Domingo Norte, with a budget of RD$14 million.

Likewise, he highlighted that he maintains several plants in operation that are located in technical survey process for its conditioning with the purpose of guaranteeing efficient and sustainable management of the service. Among which are those located in Los Tres Brazos, Ciudad Satélite, La Ciénaga and La Zurza.

Likewise, he indicated that they contemplate the intervention of the Hato Nuevo (Manoguayabo), Los Alcarrizos, Lotes y Servicios (SDN) and Caballona (SDO) plants.

Likewise, as part of the comprehensive plan, they have scheduled the replacement and expansion of sanitary sewage networks in the sectors Villas Agrícolas, Villa Consuelo, Villa Juana and on Jacobo Majluta Avenue, with an investment of RD$1,465,760,174.28, which will strengthen the health infrastructure of Greater Santo Domingo.
