Brazilian basketball lost this Saturday (27) former player Maria Aparecida Cardoso Guimarães, known as Cida, who helped the Brazilian team win the South American Championship in 1954 and 1959, reported the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB).
“Two-time South American champion with the Brazilian team in 1954 and 1959, Cida helped build a solid path for the new generations that would come later, breaking prejudices and conquering space and titles! Cida began the journey of a basketball family, and is the mother of our beloved Cadum Guimarães, Eduardo, Ângela and Márcia, as well as sister of Maria Helena Cardoso. Our condolences to her friends and family. Cida is an example of determination, talent and love for basketball and life”, stated the CBB in a statement.
The cause of Cida’s death, who was 95 years old, was not revealed. The former player, who played in the pivot position, also won two silvers and a bronze in the South American team with the Brazilian team, in addition to a silver and a bronze in the Pan-American games.
