President Nicolás Maduro yesterday celebrated the birth of Mao Zedong, whom he called one of the giants of the 20th century.
“His genius in strategy and the formation of a revolutionary army of workers and peasants showed that people can defeat empires,” the president said on his Telegram account.
Maduró pointed out that his legacy taught us that “weapons are an important factor in war, but not the decisive one; the decisive factor is the man and not the things.” He indicated that this strategic vision was the cornerstone for the victory and liberation of the Chinese people.
The dignitary stated that thanks to leadership like that of Mao, China recovered “its ancient power, transforming into a superpower of knowledge, education and technology.”
“Our admiration lies in his ability to restore dignity to a nation,” the president stressed.
His figure, Maduro said, represents rebellion and the construction of one’s own project, elements that inspire our country in the defense of its sovereignty and independence.
In the audiovisual that accompanies the message, the head of state stated that only the great Republic founded by Mao Zedong was able to guide China and together with the people managed to configure a political model that allowed the development and expansion of productive forces.
It meant that in just five or six decades the Asian giant went from a semi-feudal country to one with the highest level of scientific, technological, cultural, economic, financial and commercial development in the world.
“We have the same historical values of the great Mao Zedong and Xi Jinping, Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez. We are united in soul, spirit and values,” he stated.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry, through a statement, celebrated together with the Chinese Government and people, the anniversary of the birth of “the Great Helmsman, Mao Zedong, undisputed leader of the popular revolution, who forged the history, alongside millions of comrades, of a new stage of renewal, emancipation and progress of the entire Chinese society.”
In the text he recalled “the path of the struggle for the liberation of the homeland against the invading and colonialist forces represented by the Western powers and Japan, in the so-called Century of Humiliation” and under the leadership of Zedong he managed to “leave the vestiges of feudalism, imperialism and the liberal political system in the past.”
“The visionary vision of the Great Helmsman constituted the projection of a socialism with Chinese characteristics, beginning the path of independence and prosperity of our brother millennial people,” he added in the text.
The revolutionary Government greeted with “enormous joy (…) the wonderful advances achieved after this impressive historical feat, which have made the People’s Republic of China a world reference and model.”
The bilateral relationship has become a fundamental partnership in the international arena. Since their establishment in 1974, both countries have cultivated a strong collaboration that has grown in importance.
Mao included peasants
Mao Zedong was a politician, philosopher, intellectual, military strategist and president of China. Under his leadership the Communist Party confronted the Nationalist Party’s anti-communist extermination policy in the first part of the Chinese civil war (1927-1936), during which it led the Long March, promoted the Second United Front to fight the Japanese occupation and then defeated the dictatorship of Chiang Kai-shek in the Chinese Revolution of 1949, proclaimed a new republic, which reunified China and ended the Century of the Humiliation. Maoism gave a central role to the peasant class as the engine of the revolution.
