He pointed out that there are still many people in prison and assured that they will continue to denounce arbitrary arrests and “fabricated” causes to unjustly imprison the adversaries of the Maduro administration.

Edmundo González Urrutia questioned the fact that full freedom had not been granted to the political prisoners released early on December 25.

«Celebrating a release does not mean normalizing the unacceptable. Those who recover the streets today are still deprived of full freedom. “They continue with open processes, surveillance, implicit threats, fear,” he said on his social media account.

In his opinion, Venezuelan justice remains “suspended” over each released political prisoner as a permanent threat. González Urrutia pointed out that those detained for political reasons are “hostages” that the Maduro administration uses to send messages, exert pressure, discipline society and then make selective releases without any type of guarantees.

He pointed out that there are still many people in prison and assured that they will continue to denounce arbitrary arrests and “fabricated” causes to unjustly imprison the opponents of the Maduro administration.

«Peace is not born from fear or partial gestures. There will be peace when there is justice. And justice means full freedom, closure of cases and real guarantees.

The leader Henrique Capriles Radonski also spoke about the releases. According to the politician, the measure is a “clear expression of will to generate a climate of internal peace.”

The leader of the Unión y Cambio party described the measure as necessary to contribute to the peace of the country, taking into account that the economic crisis is becoming increasingly worse with “the unstoppable devaluation and inflation” and requested the release of all detainees before the end of 2025.

The releases of the 99 post-election prisoners were confirmed by the Ministry for the Penitentiary Service. On their social networks, they indicated that after reviewing their cases, they were granted precautionary measures.

In the statement, the official entity said that the release of the political prisoners was a “concrete expression of the State’s commitment to peace, dialogue and justice.”
