The Kremlin announced that Russia has resumed contacts with the United States after analyzing the new 20-point peace plan modified by Ukraine and its European allies.
The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said this Friday, December 26, that a meeting with US President Donald Trump may take place “in the near future” and noted that “a lot” can be decided before the New Year, in relation to diplomatic efforts to end the war between Russia and his country.
Zelensky assured in his social networks that he was informed by his chief negotiator, Rustem Umérov, of the regular contacts he maintains with American emissaries.
«We don’t waste a single day. “We have agreed to a meeting at the highest level, with President Trump, in the near future,” the Ukrainian leader reported.
“It can be decided long before the New Year,” Zelensky concluded his brief message.
According to diplomatic sources cited by the Ukrainian media Kyiv Postthe Ukrainian president plans to travel to Florida (United States) in the coming days with the expectation of holding talks with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence.
The visit could take place next Sunday, December 28, “if everything goes according to plan,” one of the sources told Kyiv Post.
This Thursday, the Ukrainian president held a telephone conversation with White House emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with whom he discussed some “new ideas” on how to achieve peace in Ukraine, in terms of formats, meetings and the roadmap for the talks.

“At the request of President (Vladímir) Putin, contact took place between representatives of the Administration of Russia and the United States,” said Dmitri Peskov, presidential spokesman, in his daily telephone press conference.
He specified that on the Russian side, the person in charge was the Kremlin’s international policy advisor, Yuri Ushakov, while on the American side “there were several interlocutors.”
According to Peskov, the Kremlin’s emissary to Ukraine, Kiril Dmitriev, “informed the president about the results of his trip to the United States, about his contacts with the Americans.”
He added that the Russians and Americans “agreed to continue the dialogue.”
The war between Russia and Ukraine began in February 2022.
