Minsa inspects pharmaceutical products in pharmacies and pharmacies to protect public health

He Ministry of Health carries out permanent inspection operations in pharmacies, pharmacies and drugstores throughout the country to verify that the pharmaceutical products and medical devices sold meet the quality, safety and effectiveness standards established in their health records.

The General Directorate of Medicines, Supplies and Drugs (Digemid) leads these interventions in coordination with the regional health directorates and management (Diresa and Geresa), as well as with the Addresses of Integrated Health Networks (Diris) of Metropolitan Lima, with the aim of protecting the health of the population against products that do not comply with health regulations.

Inspections in pharmacies

In parallel with interventions at points of sale to the public, Digemid inspects nationally registered drugstores to verify compliance with orders to immobilize pharmaceutical products, medical devices and health products that represent a risk to health.

These immobilization measures function as a preventive mechanism that prevents the marketing and distribution of products that do not meet the technical requirements or that have been alerted by health authorities. Drugstores, as wholesale distributors, have the responsibility to comply with these provisions under administrative sanction.

Establishment liability

During the interventions, the inspectors from the different health institutions emphasized that specialized stores, drugstores, pharmacies and pharmacies have the legal obligation to comply with all the security measures established by current health regulations.

This responsibility includes verifying the origin of the products, maintaining adequate storage conditions, respecting cold chains when applicable, and only marketing products with current health registration and marketing authorization.

Permanent inspection

Digemid announced that it will continue to carry out these control actions permanently throughout the national territory to protect public health and guarantee that the population only has access to medicines of proven quality, safe and effective.

The operations are carried out without prior notice in pharmaceutical establishments in all regions, allowing irregularities to be detected in real time and the corresponding administrative sanctions to be applied when violations of health regulations are identified.
