Enrique Valderrama: “I am going to focus on recovering the ‘solid north’.”

Enrique Valderrama: “I am going to focus on recovering the 'solid north'.”

Enrique Valderrama addresses the problems of the guests and proposes APRA unity in the campaign.

There is debate by guests.

There are spaces where there was no registration of candidates. The law allows 20%. It’s all within the legal framework.

No spaces were separated in advance…

The Electoral Tribunal informs the Political Commission and a decision is made. But the consensus is to fundamentally respect the positions. From the little we have talked about, it has been directed to places where there was no registration of companions. Especially in the center.

But among the guests there are militants…

As far as I understand, the law allows them to be independent and militant.

Mauricio Mulder told Perú21 that he does not know him.

Within the framework of the campaign I am sure that he will recover his memory.

Have you thought about calling former candidates from other presidential formulas?

We have won by a not very considerable advantage, which requires us to call on all tendencies. I want to talk with the first places in deputies, senators and the Andean Parliament.

In ’84 Alan summoned the older ones, like Luis Alberto Sánchez, the defeated ones, like Carlos Enrique Melgar, and those who left with Velasco, like Luis Felipe de las Casas.

Clear. There was no exclusion or veto. In addition, Alan had participated in parliament. But they are totally different circumstances. Here we are not talking about a partisan issue of internal control, but rather the spokesperson for a national campaign that needs everyone to move forward.

Alan skipped a generation and generated resentment.

Our motto was “Renewal with unity”. I think that, although in a tight manner, the renewal took place on November 30. Now we are in the task of building unity.

In 1984 Alan created the “independents with Alan” with ‘apristones’ businessmen and figures outside the party. Have you contemplated a similar strategy to be known outside the cenacle?

César Campos gave me a good idea, remembering the episode that you now refer to. I am evaluating the possibility of creating a collective called “Independientes con Kike”. I think it would be positive.

How to improve the image of APRA?

We have to give clear signals of a powerful anti-corruption approach. We must give a very strong message around the issue of security, public health and the agrarian issue in the north of the country. And I think we have to know how to make our way in the south of Peru as well, an issue that I think the right is not going to have easy. And obviously the wear and tear of Keiko and Acuña in northern Peru, given their alliance with President Dina Boluarte, I think it is a bill that they are going to pay at the polls. Definitely, APRA can have an important return in northern Peru. I’m going to focus on recovering the ‘solid north’. It must be admitted that participating in the Board of Directors controlled by Fujimorism was not the best. In Peru there is a lot of social injustice. Many changes must be made that the right does not admit.

In the primaries he got many votes in the province…

Of course, in the interior of the country we have been left with an important advantage. And in Lima we must admit that I came third. I am the candidate of Haya de la Torre’s party for the decision, basically, within the country.

His second vice president, Lucio Vásquez, told me: “Enrique Valderrama is an Aprista of the 21st century. He is not from an Aprista family.”

My parents are both northerners. My grandparents, with whom I grew up, are from the Sierra de La Libertad. But none of them were APRA militants. They were not even APRA supporters. I remember telling Armando Villanueva that I felt sorry for not coming from an Aprista family, and he told me: “Don’t worry, I don’t come from an Aprista family either.”

Lucio is co-author of books with Roque Benavides. I understand that they met. Did they talk about mining?

Yes, we have met with Roque Benavides and César Campos. We have talked.

Because his father was a doctor from Leguía…

And because he was the second promotion of the party. He told me: “It has merit to have joined the party in a conceptual way.” My attraction to APRA is initially intellectual. Then it becomes deeply emotional. I called Armando when he was already general secretary of the PUCP university command. I became APRA when I was 13 or 14 years old. I went to the game and a political training center with Wilbert Bendezú was just starting. A young Javier Barreda spoke there. And Carlos Roca also spoke.

Her vice is a feminist historian. Wife of Germán Peralta, former head of the INC.

María Inés Valdivia is the most intellectual woman of all the vice presidents of the election. She is a doctor in Brazil. And she has studied female leadership at APRA. We have considered relaunching the party in multiple dimensions. One is the conceptual dimension. We are going to publish a book of interviews about the validity of Haya de la Torre. Some APRA intellectuals will appear there.

Javier Velásquez Quesquén denounces that the primaries were not respected.

20% of guests are within the statutory powers of the Political Commission and within the legal framework. It is a common practice and has now been used mainly for empty spaces in regions. In the case of national senators, we tried to reinforce our proposal to reform the justice system with two lawyers well known in the Peruvian legal world.
