The high historical value of Socorro led the country to declare its historic center as an Asset of Cultural Interest of the Nation in 1963. Among its greatest treasures is the Cathedral of Our Lady of Helpconsidered the largest stone cathedral in Colombia and one of the largest in South America. Another point of interest is the House of Culturean emblematic building that reflects the colonial essence of the town. It was founded in 1954 by historian Horacio Rodríguez Plata and today it functions as a space dedicated to preserving and disseminating the cultural memory of the municipality.
Socorro also houses the Convent of Saint John the Baptist of the Order of the Minor Capuchin Brothershe first Capuchin convent founded in America. This place was the scene of a transcendental historical event: there the independence of the Free and Independent State of Socorro on July 10, 1810even anticipating other independence processes in the country.
Within its heritage also highlights the Communards Bridgea declared structure National Monument in 2000which remembers the passage of those who carried out one of the most important uprisings in the country.
