According to the PF, the former director violated the electronic ankle monitor and fled to Paraguay, where he was detained by local authorities, this Friday (26)when trying to travel to another country with a false passport.

Information about the escape was sent to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), who ordered Silvinei’s arrest after his escape.

Sentenced to 24 years and 6 months in prison in the criminal action of Core 2 of the coup plotthe former director was under house arrest and was monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet.

According to the PF, the ankle bracelet stopped emitting a GPS signal around 3 am on Thursday (25). Agents then went to the former director’s apartment, located in São José, Santa Catarina, and found that he was not at home.

After checking the building’s camera system, agents concluded that he was in the apartment until 7:22 pm on Christmas Eve, Wednesday (24).

CCTV footage showed Vasques placing bags in the boot of a car. He was wearing black sweatpants, a gray t-shirt and a black cap.

The PF also pointed out that the escape must have occurred with a rented car.

This morning, the corporation confirmed that Silvinei was arrested in Paraguay and should be sent back to Brazil.

Coup plot

Vasques was convicted of the crimes of criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état, qualified damage through violence and serious threat and deterioration of listed property.

According to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the PF, Vasques ordered blitzes to be carried out in locations where Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s ticket had more voting intentions, with the aim of making it difficult for voters to access the ballot box, benefiting former president Jair Bolsonaro, who was seeking re-election.

The former director of the PRF was preventively arrested in August 2023 and spent a year in detention until Minister Alexandre de Moraes granted him temporary freedom upon compliance with a series of precautionary measures, such as the use of an electronic ankle bracelet and the cancellation of his passport.
