The general commander of the National Police of Peru (PNP), General Óscar Arriola, maintained that there was information about possible escape intentions of the former premier. Betssy Chavez who has been holed up in the residence of the Mexican embassy since last November 3.

In statements to Canal N, General Arriola indicated that the participation of at least 25 police officers has been arranged in the surroundings of the residence, who are joined by others located in “strategic places.”
Asked about a possible escape of the former head of the coup leader Pedro Castillo’s cabinet, the highest police authority responded that “there is always information and all of it has to be verified, not a single one is ruled out. However, he said that all of them are “reserved in nature.”
“We are informed and we act appropriately.” he added.
When asked if there was Chávez’s intention to escape taking advantage of the Christmas holidays. Arriola responded: “There is information, and we verify it, we do our normal and routine work.”
The officer added that “the means of escape for a person who now has that status of political asylum could be to try to circumvent security.”
“I could suddenly leave in a vehicle that has diplomatic immunity and make some type of transfer somewhere, that’s why there are measures,” he said, after remembering that the National Police is prevented from entering the diplomatic headquarters of Mexico, including the ambassador’s residence, and even from intervening in the vehicles.
“The vehicles have the same privileges, they cannot be intervened by a member of the National Police except in cases of extreme urgency that have to do with the life, with the health of the occupants,” he indicated.
