The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) banned the marketing, distribution, import, advertising and use of products based on allulose, a type of sweetener, from the company Sainte Marie Importação e Exportação. The measure was published in Official Gazette of the Union last Monday (22).Anvisa prohibits products based on allulose, a type of sweetener; understand

The ban occurred because allulose is not on the list of substances authorized by Anvisa for use as a sweetener or food ingredient in Brazil.

According to the agency, all new foods or ingredients, that is, without a history of consumption in Brazil, must be submitted for approval by Anvisa.

In the technical analysis, Anvisa assesses whether the manufacturing process of the new ingredient or food does not induce or concentrate substances that are harmful to health or do not exceed levels considered safe for the population.
