Santiago. – The explosion of a main pipe of the Santiago Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Coraasan) caused this Thursday the flooding of several homes, total loss of water and insulation of the La Zanja community, leaving several families literally on the street.
The infrastructure collapse occurred around 9:00 in the morning when a strong water pressure opened a huge hole in the roadunleashing a current that strongly penetrated at least eight homes dragging furniture, appliances and personal belongings.
Residents explained that the problem began days ago as a minor breakdown with visible leaks on the street, but which was not corrected in time. As the hours passed, the deterioration progressed until the pipe was completely gone.
One of the most affected houses was occupied by a man who was sleeping next to a girl, who They managed to escape unharmed thanks to the alert from neighbors avoiding a possible tragedy. No casualties were reported, but material damage was extensive.
The incident left the community incommunicated with the center of the municipality increasing the desperation of those affected, who demanded a faster response from the authorities.
Brigades of Coraasan as well as units of the Sabana Iglesia Fire Department and the Baitoa Civil Defense who carried out evaluation, assistance and control of the situation.
The community members demanded definitive solutions and immediate help for the families who lost everything after the collapse of the pipeline.
