The arrival of the first ship to Puerto Antioquia marked a milestone in the preparation process of this mega port project located in the Urabá subregion of Antioquia.
On December 24, the terminal carried out a controlled operational exercise which allowed progress in the technical and logistical tests necessary for its entry into operation, scheduled for first half of 2026.
According to the company, the day consisted of mobilization of empty test containerswith the objective of validating the operational, technical, security and inter-institutional coordination procedures, prior to the formal start of commercial activities.
From Puerto Antioquia they clarified that this operation did not involve the shipment of export cargo or the unloading of merchandise, so it is not yet considered the beginning of commercial operations.

How was the operation carried out in Puerto Antioquia?
During the exercise, a liner container ship, operated by the shipping company CMA CGMarrived at the terminal dock to carry out the scheduled maneuvers. Once docked, the containers were unloaded, temporarily stored in the yard and subsequently loaded again onto the same vessel, which returned to its point of origin at the end of the day.
From the Antioquia Maritime Terminal Consortium (Cotema) they explained that these tests are part of the current phase of the project and are essential to guarantee that the infrastructure, personnel and protocols are fully prepared before the start of operations.
What personnel participated in the maneuvers?
The docking and departure maneuvers were assisted by two practical pilots and two tugsin addition to operational personnel who, according to the entity, were duly enrolled, trained and equipped with the required personal protection elements.
The exercise took place between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, with a duration of approximately eight hours, during which time loading and unloading processes, industrial safety, operational communications, protection protocols and dock care were evaluated, all under controlled conditions.

What’s coming next for Puerto Antioquia?
According to the port company, this operational test had the endorsement of the General Maritime Directorate and other competent authorities, and represents a key step in the transition of Puerto Antioquia towards its operational phase.
The port mega-project, located in Turbo and which has an investment close to 800 million dollarswill begin operations in 2026 with an initial capacity of seven million tons per year.
The project generates great economic expectations in Urabá, promising a significant reduction in logistics costs and transportation times to the main production centers of the country.
