He Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) warned this Wednesday about an attempt to “massive deceive” Cubans based on information disclosed on social networks.
These publications reported an alleged donation of cash during the end-of-year celebrations, which the population could access at bank branches on the island.
In this regard, the institution clarified that this is fraudulent information disseminated to generate confusion, according to a note published on its official channels.
The BCC described these publications as “a new campaign of disinformation and manipulation,” which falsely links the Bank itself and the United States government with an alleged massive distribution of cash.

“There is no program, donation or cash delivery operation promoted by the Bank or the United States government aimed at the population on these dates,” the official statement highlights.
According to the financial entity, the rumor was promoted by the Facebook user known as Ignacio Giménez, who spread the misleading version on his social media profiles.
The Central Bank warned that this is “a crime of massive deception” with the aim of altering public order and taking advantage of the economic vulnerability of citizens.
Banking authorities asked the population to stay informed through official sources and avoid sharing unverified messages that could contribute to the spread of false or malicious content.
Ministry of Tourism denies giving donations to Cubans in hotels
Repeated falsehoods
At the beginning of this month, The Ministry of Tourism was also forced to deny the alleged delivery of donations to the Cubans who went to the island hotelsa hoax spread by Giménez himself, who in the past has gained visibility on the networks for campaigns and statements related to the island.
Giménez, who allegedly would be Cuban-Spanish and who has engaged in activism against the Cuban Government, advertisement then he would provide important financial aid and supplies to people who showed up at all the hotels in the country.
It would do so with the supposed support of Cuban entities and collaborators who would wear yellow, while the press would cover the deliveries, which would last throughout the month of December.
Although many people were ironic and warned about the falsehood of this announcement on the networks, others took it as true and spread it even more, to the point that there was no shortage of Cubans who went to hotels with the idea of receiving the donation.
On that date, the journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso said on Facebook having seen today “more people than usual in the surroundings of Habana Libre waiting for the promised ‘gift'”, as a result of the hoax.
