In the early hours of this December 25, the National Police of Peru (PNP) increased surveillance outside the residence of the Mexican Embassylocated in the district of San Isidro, where the former minister is asylum Betssy Chavez from November 3 to 3 of this year. According to the PNP commander general, Oscar Arriolathis police operation was carried out with the purpose of avoiding possible escapes due to the festival of the Christmas.

“As it is very easy to presume, someone in their right mind and, given what is being experienced with respect to the people here, it is very likely that they could take advantage of what someone might think: carelessness due to the date, due to the replacement, reduction of personnel or the fact that personnel are chased away. None of that, on the contrary. There is a large police contingent, it has doubled and tripled since a few days ago,” Arriola explained in Exitosa.

After the presence of the head of the PNPthe strong guard ceased. Likewise, it has been ruled out that law enforcement forces break into the interior of the Mexican embassy.

The former congresswoman has been in asylum since November 3 of this year, despite the fact that she was facing a judicial process against her, which culminated in a sentence against her for 11 years for the crime of conspiracy to rebel after the attempted coup d’état in December 2022. So far, Chávez Chino has not been able to leave the Mexican Embassy because the Government did not grant him safe passage to leave the country and travel to the territory directed by Claudia Sheinbaum.

On December 24, Betssy Chávez presented her resignation from the Todo con el Pueblo political partylinked to the former president Pedro Castillo. The news was spread by her lawyer, Raúl Noblecilla, who shared a letter signed by the former congresswoman on social networks. In the document, Chávez communicates his decision to disassociate himself from the political organization, arguing that his determination is based on reasons of political coherence and his commitment to democratic values.

“From coherence and democratic conviction, he will remain firm on the path to the recovery of the homeland in peace and social justice. Today he greets with joy and optimism the candidacy for the Senate of the Republic of his mother Herminia Chino, as well as that of many colleagues who, in an act of unity, are running for the Podemos Peru party,” Noblecilla published.
