This Thursday, December 25, which is one of the official rest days, Mexico City faces a combination of factors that can affect mobility and daily activities: mobilizations programmed, weather conditions with the presence of fog and mist, as well as the application of the program Not Circulating Today.
The capital authorities, through their social networks, recommend the population take precautions and plan their transfers in advance.
Mobilizations or concentrations
According to information from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), at least two social mobilizations are planned for this day in the Álvaro Obregón mayor’s office.
The first was scheduled to start at 7:00 a.m., with a rally that will depart from San Jerónimo 630-4, in the Jardines del Pedregal neighborhood, heading to the Cuarto Dinamo, in the Parque de los Dinamos.
The route has not yet been defined, so intermittent road disruptions are expected in the south-west area of the capital.
Later, at 6:00 p.m., another rally-shoot is expected to begin at Avenida Insurgentes 2342, Chimalistac neighborhood, with a possible destination to the Historic Center of Mexico City, also without a confirmed route. Both mobilizations could generate partial closures and congestion.
Climate in CDMX
Regarding the climate, the National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that during the morning of this December 25, particularly between 06:00 and 09:00 hours, partly cloudy skies with fog banks are expected in various regions of the State of Mexico, including Lerma, Atlacomulco, Naucalpan, Ecatepec and Amecameca. These conditions can reduce visibility in urban areas and roads, which increases the risk of vehicle accidents.
For CDMX, mostly clear skies are forecast, although with the presence of fog, especially during the first hours of the day.
Given this scenario, the authorities recommended motorists take extreme caution, reduce speed, maintain a greater distance between vehicles and turn on low beams in areas with fog or limited visibility. Pedestrians and cyclists are also asked to remain attentive to their surroundings, especially on primary roads.
What cars are circulating?
The government of the megalopolis also announced the application of the Today It Doesn’t Circulate programalso valid this Wednesday, December 25.
According to the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe), vehicles with green stickers and license plate finishes 1 and 2, which have a hologram 1 or 2, will not be able to circulate in Mexico City and in the suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico.
The restriction will be active during normal program hours, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The capital authorities reiterated the call to use public transportation, share the vehicle or plan alternative routes to avoid setbacks. Although the day is considered less work activitythe coincidence of mobilizations, adverse weather conditions and vehicle restrictions could generate damage in different parts of the capital and the metropolitan area.
