PUD demands freedom of political prisoners: “It is an indispensable step for reconciliation”

Penal Forum reports 882 political prisoners as of #10Nov: 59 are in forced disappearance

Unitary Platform assured that no society can advance while there is political persecution and the fundamental rights of citizens are violated

The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) demanded the freedom of all political prisoners as an indispensable step to achieve “the reconciliation of Venezuelans, peace and democratic recovery.”

In its Christmas message, broadcast on December 24, the opposition bloc assured that there cannot be a shared future as long as fundamental rights are violated.

«Many families are going through this time marked by absence, uncertainty and injustice. Fathers, mothers, children and siblings face these dates with the burden of knowing that loved ones remain deprived of liberty solely for expressing their ideas. This situation cannot be assumed as normal or acceptable. “No society can advance while persecution replaces justice and fear tries to impose itself on conscience,” he wrote in his account in X.

The opposition coalition expressed its confidence in the “ability to resist, rediscover and rebuild” of Venezuelan society.

He reaffirmed his commitment to citizens and assured that they will continue to accompany each fair claim and work “so that popular sovereignty, freedom, justice and dignity become a reality in every home in the country.”

According to the balance presented by the organization Foro Penal, as of December 15 in Venezuela there are 902 people deprived of liberty for political reasons: 86 are foreigners and 62 are in a condition of forced disappearance.

*Journalism in Venezuela is carried out in a hostile environment for the press with dozens of legal instruments in place to punish the word, especially the laws “against hate”, “against fascism” and “against the blockade.” This content was written taking into consideration the threats and limits that, consequently, have been imposed on the dissemination of information from within the country.
