Huancayo: With anger and pushing, merchants take over Jirón Cajamarca and the fair is relocated (Video)

The installation of the Christmas fair in Huancayo led to a violent day of tension, with pushing, throwing of sticks and chairs and aggression in the Cajamarca jirón, after the Provincial Municipality decided to relocate the fairies to Real Street and free the jirón to allow vehicular passage.

However, in this attempt, nearly 200 street vendors verbally and physically clashed with night watchmen, municipal officials, and officials to avoid being evicted from the sector. According to the municipality, informal traders “They stormed the center of the street where the fair was going to be set up” and prevented the assembly. “We relocated the stallholders to safeguard their physical integrity, they are now installed on Calle Real, from Jirón Huánuco to Piura, where more than 350 merchants participate”explained the manager of Economic Promotion and Tourism of the MPH, Edwin Pérez.

The merchants of Jirón Cajamarca claimed to have paid 120 soles to occupy the road during the festivities, however, officials stated that these payments only corresponded to the fairgrounds. “Those who claim to have paid were going to participate in the Christmas fair but refused to be relocated.”Perez said.

The manager of Citizen Security, César Ramos, confirmed that during the operation there were attempts at aggression and that the security plan had to be modified. “The plan was reformulated and the command room was moved to Huamanmarca Plaza, where Civil Defense personnel are alert for any emergency.”said Ramos.

Finally, the municipality ordered vehicular detours through the Cajamarca jirón towards Mantaro, with exits through Huánuco and Ica towards Ferrocarril Avenue, and announced that the occupation of the Cajamarca jirón will only be allowed on specific dates such as December 24, 25, 31 and January 1, while tensions between merchants and authorities continue.
