Blackouts

Despite these data, the population has not been exempt from blackouts. One of the most important was recorded in last Novemberleaving chaos in the traffic of Santo Domingo and generating losses to the economy.

Days after the incident, a report from the Coordinating Body of the National Interconnected Electrical System (OC-SENI) pointed out that a manual disconnection of an energized line at the 138 kV substation of San Pedro de Macorís I was the cause of the failure.

Between August and September This year, Dominicans suffered cuts in the electrical service, a problem that the Government reported was the result of an increase in demand, due to the rise in temperatures that affected the country, as well as the delay of three generation plants that were scheduled to enter the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI).

He SENI had to receive the injection 612 megawatts (MW), coming from three central: Energía 2000, which would provide 414 MW; Energas IV, with 130 MW; and the SIBA combined cycle, which will generate 68 MW. With this, according to the authorities, the problems would be resolved. blackouts for summer 2026.

However, for experts in electrical matterthe entry into operation of these plants will not solve the interruptions that affect the population.

The consultant Miguel Rosario argued that a good expansion planwhich guarantees adequate planning, although he clarified that it is essential that this be carried out continuously, regardless of the Government in power and the depoliticization of the electricity sector.
