Will they turn back? Until noon today, Together for Peru has a deadline to present an extension document and be able to include the announced candidacy for the Senate of Antauro Humaladespite the fact that, according to experts, he could not be a candidate because he maintains a civil reparation debt of more than S/1 million.
According to the Senate lists presented by JP, a party that is controlled by Pedro Castillo from the Barbadillo prison, Isaac Humala, 94, is running for the National Senate with number 9, as a guest.
Likewise, with number 1 to the National Senate, the elder brother of the Chotano professor, José Mercedes Castillo Terrones, has been registered.
Antauro Humala has not been registered
From Together for Peru, the ethnocacerista leader—who spent 17 years in prison for the Andahuaylazothe violent riot in which four police officers died—was announced as a guest on the list for the Upper House of the new bicameral Congress.
But while his candidacy is still uncertain on paper, a key debt remains outstanding.
In a report published on Monday by Perú21, Adolfo Cahuana, the father of non-commissioned officer Carlos Cahuana, one of the murdered police officers, assured that Humala has not complied with the payment of civil reparation ordered by the Judiciary.
As explained, the amount set was S/280 thousand for each cash, which adds up to S/1,120,000 in favor of the families of the victims.
The paradox is evident: a man convicted of murder for leading an armed uprising, which ended with four police officers murdered, today seeks a seat in the Senate without having settled his obligation to those who bear the highest cost of that episode.
Registration could be truncated, but the question remains floating in the political and judicial air: can a candidacy advance when civil compensation remains unpaid? The National Elections Jury (JNE) will have the last word.
According to criminal lawyer Andy Carrión, a citizen who has not paid his civil compensation cannot run for elected office, as is the case in the case of ethnocacerista leader.
Until noon today it will be known whether Together for Peru finally registered him for the Senate or not.
