President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree this Wednesday (24) to make it mandatory, from 2026, the showing of Brazilian films in cinemas across the country.
The measure regulates the Screen Quota for next year and establishes a minimum number of sessions in commercial rooms. The National Cinema Agency (Ancine) will supervise.
Through this decree, also signed by the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, a continuous and diversified space is ensured for Brazilian cinema on the commercial circuit. With the Screen Quota, there is an obligation to show national films for a minimum number of days throughout the year.
The government’s measure is a search for diversity and a guarantee that several Brazilian titles reach the screens instead of a restricted number of productions.
The government decree is also a way to stimulate the audiovisual sector, increasing its production, circulation, generation of jobs and income.
