Nasry ‘Tito’ Asfura declared president-elect of Honduras

Asfura, of the National Party, beat the liberal Salvador Nasralla and the Libre candidate, Rixi Moncada.

MIAMI, United States. – The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Honduras declared this Wednesday Nasry Juan Asfura Zablah, of the National Party, as “virtual president-elect” after the general elections of November 30, with 40.26% of the votes, in an announcement made virtually and with the rejection of counselor Marlon Ochoa, of the ruling Freedom and Refoundation Party (Libre), who denounced that an “electoral coup d’état” was brewing.

The CNE declaration maintains that, “by the majority will of the Honduran people, expressed sovereignly at the polls, the Plenary of Councilors of the CNE, declares citizen Nasry Juan Asfura Zablah as constitutional president of the Republic of Honduras for a period of four years, which begins on January 27, 2026 and ends on January 27, 2030.”

The statement was supported by Ana Paola Hall, president of the CNE and representative of the Liberal Party; Cossette López, representative of the National Party, and Carlos Cardona, substitute advisor, according to the EFE report.

In the same text, the electoral body added that it will communicate the declaration to those elected and will issue the corresponding credentials, in addition to notifying the Executive Branch and various State institutions and the political parties mentioned in the resolution.

After the announcement, Asfura wrote on the social network: “Honduras: I am prepared to govern. I am not going to fail you.” In that same message, he also stated: “Honduras, we already have the official declaration from the CNE (…). I recognize the great work carried out by the counselors and the entire team that carried out the elections.”

From Washington, the Secretary of State of the United States, the Cuban-American Marco Rubiocongratulated Asfura. “The people of Honduras have spoken: Nasry Asfura is the next president of Honduras. The United States congratulates the president-elect and looks forward to working with his administration to advance prosperity and security in our hemisphere,” wrote Rubio.

According to the official record released by the CNE, until 3:00 p.m. (local time) the liberal Salvador Nasralla was in second place with 39.54%, while the Libre candidate, Rixi Moncadawas third with 19.19%. The resolution read in the session also recorded the votes obtained by each candidate: Asfura 1,479,822, Nasralla 1,452,796 and Moncada 705,428 votes.
