The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued this Wednesday (24) a storm warning (danger and potential danger) for a large part of Rio Grande do Sul and also for the entire state of Santa Catarina.
Rio Grande do Sul will have moderate to occasionally heavy rain, winds of varying intensity and hail this afternoon and evening.
The red alert applies to the central and northern regions of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which includes the capital Porto Alegre and the metropolitan region. The area can receive rain between 30 and 60 millimeters (mm) per hour, reaching 50mm to 100mm. There may be winds between 60 kilometers per hour (km/h) and 100 km/h and hail.
This prediction above also applies to the city of Farroupilha, which was hit hard this Tuesday (23) by the passage of a tornado.
For the central-south region of the state, the alert is yellow, which indicates potential danger. There may be rain between 20 and 30mm/h, reaching up to 50mm/day. Wind speeds are between 40 and 60km/h and hail is expected.
Santa Catarina
The entire state of Santa Catarina is under red alert, according to Inmet, which indicates danger. There may be rain between 50mm/day and 100mm/day and intense winds, from 60 km/h to 100km/h, in addition to hail. There is a risk of power cuts and there may be falling trees and flooding.
For the capital Florianópolis, the forecast for this afternoon is for many clouds with isolated rain and light to moderate wind with gusts. The night will have many clouds with isolated showers. Winds will be light and moderate with gusts.
