AN approved 100 laws during 300 sessions in the period 2021-2025

The National Assembly (AN) approved 100 laws during the three hundred sessions held in the period 2021-2025, after sanctioning the Law on the Protection of Freedoms of Navigation and Commerce against PiracyBlockade and other International Illegal Acts.

In an extraordinary session, the Plenary Chamber unanimously approved the second discussion of this norm. The law contemplates sanctions for natural, legal and foreign persons who commit the crimes defined in the document.

The president of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, reported that the law was sent to the national Executive for its promulgation, in accordance with article 213 of the Constitution.

Likewise, he thanked the deputies for the courage and tenacity shown in their duties.

“With the approval of this law against pirates and privateers of the Caribbean, we have reached law number 100 of this legislature,” Rodríguez highlighted.

He added that these are instruments for the care of the population, the new economy, the defense of the homeland and to exercise the comptroller function.

“In these five years, we have also appointed the National Electoral Council on two occasions, complying with the constitutional process,” he concluded.

Deputy Óscar Ronderos described the law as an advance in the defense of sovereignty. According to the parliamentarian, the law is a legal novelty that seeks to protect national independence and ensure the jurisdiction of the State both in territorial waters and in the international arena.

The project was drafted by a mixed commission that brought together the instances of Internal Policy, Foreign Policy, Economy and Security and Defense. Likewise, representatives of the Public Ministry, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Chancellery and the Attorney General’s Office validated the urgency of its approval.

After incorporating formal adjustments, the Plenary Chamber received the final report as a matter of urgency.

The unanimous support of the deputies ratified the need for a legal framework that protects navigation and commerce against external threats.

Rodríguez: period 2021-2025 was a process of institutional reconstruction

Jorge Rodríguez described the period as a process of institutional reconstruction. According to the parliamentarian, the pro-government and opposition groups worked together for the benefit of the country.

Rodríguez explained that, among the 100 laws approved, those on the protection of motherhood and paternity, those on communal power, those on economic development and those aimed at expanding constitutional rights and the defense of the territory stand out.

With this Tuesday’s ordinary session, the legislative cycle formally concludes. The deputy thanked the Venezuelan people for their strength in the face of external pressures and extended his wishes for the end-of-year festivities.
