Uruguayan midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta, from Flamengo, is one of the finalists for the 2025 edition of the traditional King of America Award, granted by the Uruguayan newspaper El País. The number 10 of Rubro-Negro da Gávea is competing against Argentine star Lionel Messi, from Inter Miami (United States), and striker Adrián Martínez, from Racing (Argentina).

Arrascaeta can be considered the big favorite to win the award, after being chosen as a star player in the Brazilian Championship and Copa Libertadores. The Uruguayan was an important player at Flamengo this season, contributing 25 goals and 20 assists and helping them win four competitions: Campeonato Carioca, Supercopa do Brasil, Campeonato Brasileiro and Copa Libertadores.
The last player chosen as King of America was Brazilian striker Luiz Henrique, who helped Botafogo win the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship in 2024.
Another Flamengo representative nominated for an award granted by the newspaper El País is coach Filipe Luís. The Rubro-Negro commander competes in the best coach in the Americas category with Argentines Gustavo Costas, from Racing, and Gustavo Alfaro, from the Paraguay national team.
