The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, said on Tuesday that the accusation of the general secretary of Fenapes, José Olivera, who assures that there was a “change in the rules of the game” was a “lie” after it was confirmed that the chain national radio and television of the president will be a day after the Commission for the “Yes”.

“I can categorically tell you that it is a lie. Is a lie. Radically and frontally it is a lie”, Lacalle said this Tuesday after being approached by the press at the opening of the Expoactiva in Soriano.

“I am not talking about private meetings, but if you look at the letter, the chain asks for May 22. If we had bad intentions, we would give him the chain for May 22. I like to play open cards and we said that we don’t know if we are going to make a chain, that the president might hold a press conference. And they said: ‘But don’t go out and answer us.’ We said no problem, we leave on Tuesday, you leave on Wednesday. That was the meeting. If not, ask (Rafael) Michelini”, added the president.

“They can tell me that I’m wrong, but not that I’m lying. And that I am disloyal either, ”she continued. “The pressure of the referendum cannot make us say anything. And I continue. A few days or a few hours later, the yes coordinators unilaterally say that it will be the 22nd. And then my secretary (Nicolás Martínez) called and told them: ‘But wasn’t it that they wanted such a day?’”.

And the file?

A little over two weeks ago, after speaking with Rafael Michelini, the president had put him in contact with representatives of the “No” so that they could decide “what day the chain does each one.”

Then, last week, at another press conference, he stated: “In a meeting we told them that we might choose not to use the chain and we preferred to hold the press conference as we have done several.”

A journalist asked him if they had planned to answer the “Yes” arguments, questioning in parallel if they thought to have the “No” chain later. “No no no no. That question is good: what’s more, I wasn’t in the negotiation, but That was a topic that the yes people proposed and it seems fair to us, which is that they deliver the recording of the network and we do the press conference before knowing what the network says. Because otherwise it would be disloyal, especially from the executive branch. And I don’t do those things. It seems to me that you have to have respect and a balance between the different options.

The same journalist asked him again, to confirm, if the chain of the President of the Republic would be before the “Yes” one, to which Lacalle replied: “Yes, of course, of course, of course, and besides, I cannot have seen the video, the recording of “Yes”. Not cheating.”
