Cuban Lázaro Yunier del Castillo Bringuier and his six children live in the Solidaridad shelter, in Las Guásimas, Arroyo Naranjo.
HAVANA, Cuba. – He described the conditions in which Lázaro Yunier del Castillo Bringuier, a Cuban father who was left to care for his six children because his mother has tried to take their lives several times, described as “inhuman” and “deplorable.” The woman is currently admitted to the psychiatric ward of the “Julio Trigo López” Clinical Surgical Hospital, in Orange Creek.
The 38-year-old Cuban resides with his six children in the Solidaridad shelter, a former school converted into transit housing for people who lost their homes due to different disasters. Although the current residents were brought to the place temporarily, there are families who have resided there for more than 10 years, as confirmed by Castillo Bringuier itself.

Upon entering his home, the interviewee shows CubaNet a huge place with holes – where there were windows – covered with nylon and cardboard. “There are no conditions here to live with six children,” explained the man, who has lived for more than seven years in the shelter located in the town of Las Guásimas, in Arroyo Naranjo.
According to the complaint, the lack of drinking water is added to the terrible conditions in which he resides. To supply himself with the liquid, Castillo Bringuier must go down and up three floors loaded with buckets.

“It was reported and it was reported [la falta de agua]but nothing; The hostel manager is not interested in this. So, you go out into the street, you make a fuss, and immediately everyone comes. [representantes de instituciones estatales]. There are more than 50 children and pregnant women here, and we have to go down to carry buckets of water,” he insists.
However, Castillo Bringuier highlighted that his main fear lies in the danger that his own mother, Dariannis Silvera, represents for the lives of his children, who has tried to attack them with knives and even threw them from the third floor of the building. “Now she is admitted to Julio Trigo, but I don’t know how she managed it and she sent me a message telling me that she was going to escape. She has already done so on other occasions,” she said.

According to Castillo Bringuier, since September he and his mother, the minors’ grandmother, filed a complaint against the woman at the El Capri police station, in Arroyo Naranjo. However, the authorities have done nothing about it, he says.
“It is the life of my children that is in danger, it is not that of any boss, it is not that of any government leader, nor that of a police officer, therefore I want solutions,” the man stated.
