
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, ratified his support for Venezuela in the face of the United States blockade of sanctioned oil tankers. Venezuelan Minister Yván Gil revealed that his Russian counterpart expressed his solidarity with the country regarding the military deployment in the Caribbean.
“Sergei Lavrov firmly expressed Russian solidarity with the people of Venezuela and with President Nicolás Maduro Moros. He ratified his full support against the hostilities against our country,” Yván Gil said in a message on Telegram.
On December 10, Washington seized the sanctioned ship Skipper and confiscated the crude oil it was transporting. Days later, Trump announced a total blockage to the entry and exit to the country of oil tankers sanctioned by the US government. The decision was made within the pressure it exerts on the Maduro government, which Washington accuses of leading a drug trafficking network.
“The Russian foreign minister stated that Russia will provide all its cooperation and support for Venezuela against the United States blockade. “He expressed his full support for the actions undertaken within the UN Security Council,” Gil added.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for its part, expressed its deep concern about the stock escalation of Washington in the Caribbean Sea. These actions could have serious consequences for the region and threaten international shipping.
After 26 years of cooperation between Russia and Venezuela, a link that extends to the field of military equipment, the Russian ministry reaffirmed its full support and solidarity with the Venezuelan leaders.
The ministers of both countries also agreed to continue your close cooperation bilateral and coordinate their actions on the international scene, particularly at the UN. Its purpose is to guarantee respect for the sovereignty of States and non-interference in their internal affairs.
The United States, for its part, is not concerned about Russian support for the Maduro government because Moscow has “hands busy” with the war in Ukraine. This was stated last week by the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in a press conference at his office headquarters.
The American president, Donald Trump affirmed that the blockade will remain until Venezuela returns the oil which in his opinion he stole from the United States. Maduro also said that the seizure of tankers “is an intention warrior and colonialist“.
