The Superintendent of Transportation, Alfredo Enrique Piñeres Olave, reported that during the first verifications, alleged irregularities were detected in the technical-mechanical inspection of the vehicle involved. “We have been able to evidence possible alterations in the results of the technical-mechanical review and in the information reported to the RUNT by the Automotive Diagnostic Center, which puts users at risk,” said the official.

According to the Superintendency, these inconsistencies would have allowed the vehicle to circulate without fully complying with the safety conditions required by current regulations. The authorities are seeking to establish whether the technical documentation was manipulated or reported irregularly before the incident.
The Minister of Transportation, María Fernanda Rojas, together with Superintendent Piñeres, confirmed that the sector is advancing administrative investigations related to both the state of the bus and the entities responsible for certifying its fitness to operate. The objective is to clarify responsibilities and prevent similar events from being repeated.

“SuperTransporte will act forcefully in this case,” Piñeres Olave reiterated, indicating that sufficient merits have already been found to formulate a statement of charges and open an administrative investigation against the alleged perpetrators, after the verifications carried out by the entity.
While the investigations continue, the country continues to be shocked by the tragedy that claimed the lives of young students and a driver, in an event that reopens the debate on controls on transport vehicles and the rigor of technical-mechanical inspections, especially when it comes to safeguarding the lives of passengers.
