This Monday (22), TV Brasil will show, at 11pm, a new episode of the award-winning program Reporting Pathstitled Brega is Pop – Part 2. The attraction, carried out by UERN TV and TV Universitária do Recife, continues to reveal the success of the contagious and romantic rhythm that conquers the entire country.
Brega, historically linked to the outskirts of Recife, had its big explosion with the eternal Reginald Rossiwhich made this musical style known beyond the Northeast. Music continues to undergo constant transformation, with the emergence of new artists, being studied by academia and counting on a loyal audience that spans generations.
Furthermore, there is a forte female protagonism in the Pernambuco scene. Names like Pallas Pinho, who left the outskirts and won over the public, contribute to other women, through the Amigas do Brega project, having visibility in this genre. The singer Thayzinha, who performs on the Recife subway, is one of the examples that has been winning over young people.
This diversity of brega caught the attention of scholars. Professor and researcher at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) Thiago Soares follows the evolution of this genre as a legitimate cultural expression, highlighting its national diversity and the unique identity that the rhythm assumes in Pernambuco. For him, the debate helps to break historical prejudices and reaffirms the style as a relevant cultural movement.
King of Brega
THE Reporting Paths highlights that the legacy of Reginaldo Rossi, the King of Brega, is indisputable, being the great name responsible for making the rhythm known throughout the country. In the Boa Vista neighborhood, there is a statue in honor of the singer, who passed away in 2013, as well as panels spread across the city.
Businessman Sandro Nóbrega, who accompanied Rossi for 25 years, reveals the emotional and cultural dimension left by the artist, now also immortalized by National Brega Day, celebrated on February 14th.
Clube das Pás is one of the spaces in Recife where brega continues to have a guaranteed place. Dances, orchestras and stories from attendees show that the genre continues to be synonymous with dance, encounter and happiness.
