A few days before the end of the year festivities, the city of Piura faces one of the worst scenarios of vehicular and economic chaos in recent years, due to the simultaneous closure of strategic avenues due to construction works. In the midst of this panorama, regional governor Luis Neyra León was involved in a tense confrontation with the press, responding with offensive expressions and raising his voice when asked about the execution of the works. Although regional authorities maintain that the works seek to modernize Piura and prevent problems during the rainy season, specialists and citizens warn of a serious lack of coordination, planning and communication.
